DKSH in The Netherlands

History and expertise in pet food

Seeds mixes

DKSH Netherlands can look back on a long history in the pet food industry, which was built on the shoulders of two renowned pet food players: Holland Diervoeders and LenersanPoortman.

In 2005, the two entities merged to become DKSH Netherlands to strengthen its position in the European pet food sector.

LenersanPoortman was founded in 1803 as Lenersan & Co's Exporthandel N.V. and traded in grains, seeds, legumes, products for human consumption, animal feed and by-products. In 1823, chicken feed with the name Sluis was introduced. In 1868, A. Poortman N.V. was founded; in 1969, Lenersan and Poortman merged.

The company started in Rotterdam but in 1978 the factory in Dordrecht was opened, because of its ideal location for transport throughout Europe over the river Merwede.

Holland Diervoeders in Utrecht delivered own brand animal feed to 70% of the Dutch pet shops, vets and breeders. Every day, well-known brands such as Puik, Teurlings, Whiskas and Pal as well as the premium brands Sluis, IAMS and Eukanuba were delivered from the distribution center to more than one thousand customers in the Netherlands.

In 1973 LenersanPoortman was taken over by the Swiss company SiberHegner, which also incorporated Holland Diervoeders in 1982.

One year later, SiberHegner merged LenersanPoortman and Holland Diervoeders. The two companies now operate together under the name DKSH Netherlands and operate from Dordrecht.
